I am going on a university exchange for August 2012 and as such I have been advised to get a J1 visa. However, this visa only allows you to enter the country 30 days before the start of my studies in the United States. I was planning to go over before the 30 days and travel with my boyfriend and then meet up with some family friends I have over there. We were planning on arriving in the US around 50 days before my exchange dates.
I was wondering if it is possible for me get the B1/B2 visa at the same time I get the J1 and then have both visas for while I am over there. Will getting the B1/B2 visa allow me to arrive into the country earlier?
Can someone please get back to me ASAP??
