  • I'm completely confused here. No idea what forms/routes I should be looking at...

My girlfriend is an American citizen. She was born in Kentucky. She has her US passport and social security number.

However, she has lived in Scotland since she was 1 year old and also has a UK passport.

I hold only a UK passport.

We have been together for 7 years, have no children but have a joint mortgage and both hold degrees.

We would like to move to the US in 2.5 years time. Can anyone suggest the best route for us to take?

I've read all the stickies and it seems like the K1 form may suit us but I've not seen anyone in similar situation to ourselves so it's tough to tell.

We have no plans to get married (I'm against the concept of marraige in principle) but I'm realistic enough to concede that this is something I may need to consider to achieve our dream of moving to the states. My partner has wanted to get married for about 5 years so she'd be delighted if this developed.

Be great if someone could give me a steer.

Having done a bit more digging I can see the CR1 may be an option.

I'm still not satisfied that either suit our situation though.

Welive in Scotland so have no residence in america. It seems my partner would sponsor me...but a sponsor must reside in the US which she does not.

If you are not willing to get married to her, there is no provision for the girl friend to sponsor boy friend's green card.

If you are willing to get married to her, after you get married, you would follow the route described at https://www.immihelp.com/family-based-greencard/
