  • Affidavit of support question, please help

Hello everyone. My name is Kenneth Schwall. I am a US citizen and I recently got married in the Philippines, to my wife who lives in the Philippines and she is a Filipino citizen. I just finished getting my AA degree so I was only working part time before. I am now working full time, but I am thinking of taking a 8 week course for cna so I can begin my real career. My question is how does the affidavit of support count your income, do I have to wait until I work full time for like 6 months before should begin to petition her or is there a way to show them how much I will be making based on a few recent pay stubs. All so my mom and her boyfriend who I am currently living with agreed to help sponsor her and im sure that between the 3 of us we can reach the poverty guideline of a house hold of 4 which I believe is what we need since its just us 3 living together and we have to include my wife that im petitoning as well. Thank you for your help and Im hoping for a response asap.

    Ken,

The Affidavit of Support, for sponsorship, is not submitted when you file the spousal petition. It won't be needed until after the petition is approved and goes to the National Visa Center (NVC). You will then have to submit form I-864, with supporting documents, as the primary sponsor. If your proof of income is insufficient to meet the requriements, a co-sponsor can also submit form I-864 with supporting documents.
