  • K1 visa issued but ds-160 contains an error

    Hi,

We got my k1 visa issued, but when re-reading my ds-160 application that I kept on my computer, I noticed that for a previous trip in the US I put the length of my stay to be 3 weeks instead of 3 months (which was still allowed with my J1 visa).
I received my passport back and my brown envelope. What should I do? Call the embassy to notify them, or is it still OK as they know I have never overstayed on any of my previous trips in the US?

I am really stressed because of that, as I am planning to fly to the US next month.

    Best regards,
    Jeremy

After you get to the U.S., print out the DS-160, draft a simple attachment, signed and dated, describing the error, and submit that with your Adjustment of Status.

Thanks for the answer. This concerns the AOS.
But what about the POE? Are they going to check the DS-160?
Do you think I should just call the embassy?

Do the same thing I suggest below, but carry it with you through the POE. Do not volunteer it unless asked.

          OK Thanks.
I will do that. I feel like they won't check it as I have my passport containing my visa and my sealed envelope.
So your advice is that I shouldn't contact the embassy, because it would probably cancel/delay the visa?

Contacting the Embassy is not likely to cancel or delay your visa. But contacting the Embassy is simply not necessary and a big hassle added to your departure preparations already burdening your shoulders.

I just don't want to get denied at the POE because they think I was lying. So that's why I was thinking of contacting the embassy to let them now.

It's up to you. The POE only bars entrants if they are not who they say they are or if they appear to be sick with something possibly contagious.

I just feel like contacting the embassy will just have them telling me:
"You made a mistake but it is a minor one, as it doesn't change the fact we would or not give you your visa, so just move on"

Because they pre-screen the DS-160 applications anyway, I think they know if something is wrong right?
