  • Affidavit of support K1 visa help

    Hi
Im in the process of petitioning my fiancee for K1 visa but I'm having some trouble with the Affidavit of support. I just recently graduated and am studying to take my License exam. so in the mean time i am actively trying to find a part time job while i study for my license. I have not worked for the past 5 years so i have no tax returns. My house is under my name so i have some assets. I read mixed opinions that it has to be a relative or it can also be friends. Can someone shed light on this? My situation is that i have a friend who is willing to co-sponsor for me, I also have my sister who is willing to co-sponsor, which brings me to my next question: my sister who is willing to co-sponsor just recently started working, maybe about 6 months now. so she doesnt have any tax returns yet, will her pay stubs be sufficient in showing ability to support, She will be on pace to my 130k for the year (pharmacist) so the line of poverty is met.

Thank you in advance for the guidance

Affidavit of support K1 visa help

    Hello,

I am a college student, I am in my senior uear, therefore I am currently not working. Mg dad was not able to sponsor because he did not meet the amount required. The lawyer that is helping me get this together, ask me to find a relative or a good friend of the family that could be able to co-sponsor. I did find a friend of my dad that was willing to help me. You have to submit tax returns from the past three years. I dont think theres a problem if a friend co sponsors or I guess it just depends on the country. My boyfriend will go to the interview this coming Tuesday, I'll let you know if there was any problem regarding that. I hope it helps.

      Dulce,

There is no requirement that 3 years of tax returns must be provided for sponsorship. The most recent year return is all that is needed.

so 1 year tax return is required? will it be sufficient for my sister to co sponsor for me without a tax return? she can show emplyement letter, bank letter and pay stubs? are pay stubs enough proof?

Unless on fixed (disability) or retirement income that is exempt from taxation, a sponsor must have an income tax return.
