  • Help- Just submitted the whole I-129F and G-325a - but lost my backup copy

    Hi everyone-

As title says I lost my USB with the backup of the Scanned documents and check that I just sent to Immigrations- I sent initial paperwork 2 days ago and Staples forgot (and I forgot to grab) to give me back the USB with the backup copy...I went back the next day and they lost the USB even after they called me that I had left it there...I am so mad at myself....I was reading your site that says we should have a backup copy...

Will they ask for that in the future? and if they do will they accept me redoing it again..

I am scared they will ask for it in the future....I have not received an approval yet- as I am just 2 days in...

    My spouse is in Vietnam

    Thanks

    Kippinski,

It happens, and since you weren't sending any original legal documents (birth, marriage), you can probably create reasonably accurate copies of everything you sent for future reference.

I do digital backups of everything I sent to USCIS or NVC, and keep them all on a flash drive that is backed up on two separate PC's (separate offices). I've had to go back to backup copies hundreds of time, so the value of such scanned backups can't be overestimated.

thanks- but just to know- do they request what they already have- from your site- those forms they will have on-hand at the embassy and she just needs them to go over before the interview...

Isn't what is really need is the NOI approvals and not so much the initial paperwork?

why would they require her to have what they already have?

Your initial submission only requires "photocopies" of civil documents.

But for the later NVC step (for spousal visas) or Embassy interview, for fiancee visas, CERTIFIED, LEGAL versions are needed.

I've never encountered a need to provide a copy of the original I-129F petition. I've seen copies of the original petition generated by USCIS and given to petitioners, and I'm not sure how or why that was generated, but it had an "Approved" stamp. You can always get proof from your bank of the fee check having been cashed.

so they will probably send me "copies of the original petition generated by USCIS" or we will just see during interview...just I though I read I need to send in the application to Vietnmam - maybe I misread..

I appreciate everything- honestly two posts have response- I am grateful...

No, you will not receive copies of he original petition generated by USCIS. I just mentioned in passing that a couple of clients whose packages I picked up in midstream had copies of their submitted petitions obtained from USCIS with "Approved" stamped on them.

There is no particular reason to be sending your petition copy to Vietnam (HoChiMinh). There will be additional applications that will have to be completed that will end up at the interview, either DS-160 (nonimmigrant or K1 procedure) and DS-260 for immigrant procedures.

I have a couple of clients being processed in Vietnam, and here is no official instruction to provide an additional copy of the original petition.
