Hi there,
I'm a US citizen engaged to a UK citizen, and my fiancee and I will be marrying and living in the US. We're planning on filing the petition in early November. I have a few questions about the Affidavit of Support:
1. I have been in my current job since February (2014), but it's a temporary position. Does this matter?
2. Since I've only been in my job since February, I don't have tax returns reflecting that income. Prior to that I lived in a different state and worked in a job that didn't provide enough income to show I can support my fiancee. Can I use tax returns from last year and pair it with bank statements and a letter from my employer to show that I'm currently employed and have enough income?
3. Either way I will most likely use a co-sponsor, who has only been in his current position since July, which would present the same issue with the tax returns. Again, would pay stubs/bank statements and a letter from his employer be sufficient?
And a couple broader questions:
1. My fiancee and I are both women -- do we need to worry that her visa application will get rejected because it's a same-sex marriage? We will be living in Minnesota where same-sex marriage is legal.
2. Can I visit her in the UK during the visa application process and/or can she visit me in the US?
Thanks so much for any help! I've spent a lot of time on this website in the last couple months, and it's been very helpful for getting my head around this whole process!
