Hey everyone and thank you so much in advance for your help!
I am new here and I was wondering if anyone here could answer my questions. I live in Germany and was sent my NOA 2 a few weeks ago (end of September/beginning of October) but while I have all of the other necessary info, I haven't filled it out yet because it's asking for my Social Security Number.
I've asked everywhere but it's an issue that I've never really gotten resolved and I'm confused as to how I should handle it.
I first came to the US in late 2006 on an F-1 student visa. After my studies, I applied for a SSN and card. I received my card in the mail, but never really had to use it or the SSN number. Before I moved back to Germany, I must have misplaced/lost my card and I never wrote down the number. Ages ago, someone on another forum told me that it wasn't a big deal and that I should just put DOES NOT APPLY when asked, but I'm worried. I mean, they can certainly see that I have a SSN. It must be somewhere in their system. But do you think I can just check "does not apply" on my DS-160 form now and in the meantime ask for a replacement card or verification of my details? I don't want to delay the process any further but I also don't want to get in trouble for making wrong statements on the online form.
I have looked, and as of August of this year, I can only apply for my SSN info via mail and it says that it can take up to 60 days or more just to process the request. I'm pretty sure by that time, our original visa application approval will be close to expired. People have told me to click "does not apply" on the form (since it's either that or putting in the SSN, which I don't have and there are no other options) but others have said to wait for the info, otherwise I would risk a denial for not telling the truth. Someone implied it might depend on whether I still have the same passport as before (which I don't as it has now expired).
Also, does anyone know how long one can wait after NOA2 to fill out the necessary forms and stuff before the interview (particularly Form DS-160)?
Any help with this would be highly appreciated!
Thank you!
