My fiance getting divorce can he get a greencard still

My fiancé is going through a divorce he has not gotten his green card yet. after he gets a divorce can he still get a green card or will he have to leave the country. We do plan to marry next fall. but his current visa expires in August. What can we do. Please help us. this is new to me and I just want to make sure we do everything the right way.

If your fiancee's Green Card application (I-485) is based on his marriage to a U.S. citizen, and he has not been interviewed yet, he will not get a Green Card. If his Adjustment of Status has not been submitted yet, he will have no legal basis to submit it.
