  • K1 Visa "pending" ?

My fiancé had his interview last week at the US embassy in Islamabad. He was interviewed first in English by an American staff member, then later in the interview another person came in and the interview switched to Urdu. From the sounds of it, the interview process was quite tricky, and the interviewers tried to throw off my fiancé by saying untrue things about me (such as I still reside with my ex husband, I'm not really divorced etc.) At the end of the interview, the person interviewing told my fiancé that he was "not completely satisfied" by my fiancé's responses. The visa "would not be denied", my fiancé was told, but is now "pending". Pending what? What does pending mean? My fiancé got no clear answer to that question. He was simply told that I, the US fiancé, should hire a lawyer here in the US to help him get here.

My question is should I hire a lawyer? Can a lawyer really help? All of our paper work was in order and there were no issues there. I realize getting out of Pakistan is really difficult, and even couples whom are married can wait years for a visa and go back and forth with the embassy, applying and re-applying and jumping through hoops. Are we going to need to re-apply? What does pending mean?

    Thank you.

Wait until you have something in writing from the Islamabad Embassy. You can't proceed with processing unless you have a specific request for evidence.
