  • traveling within the U.S.

Hi, hope someone can help me answer my question. We already have the fiance visa (K-1). My question is the following, as soon as we get in the United States. Can my fiancé travel by airplane in the US only just showing his fiance visa?

I ask this question because we will be in the state of Texas and then we need to travel by airplane to Nebraska and come back to Texas. I just want to know if he will be admitted to travel without any problems. Can he travel by plain as many times as long as he travels within the U.S.?

Yes he can. There are no travel restrictions within the U.S. for nonimmigrant visa holders. But with a k1 visa, I would not recommend a cruise, which would require "reentry" to the U.S., and the K1 is a "single entry" visa.

They can go to Hawaii, even by cruise as it is the part of USA.

My sincere apologies, if I'm wrong.

This is my opinion, not a legal advice.

You are right, and they can also go to Guam, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, by plane or cruise ship.

My earlier caveat about avoiding some cruises was meant for those cruises which allow passengers to disembark and visit foreign ports. For example, Gulf of Mexico cruises routinely stop at Roatan (Honduras), Cozumel (Mexico), Belize, Grand Cayman. Someone on a K1 visa would be advised to avoid disembarking, even with a cruise ID card, since a K1 is intended for a single entry to the U.S.
