  • K1 Fiance visa activation

    Hi all,

Been reading and getting some very awesome and helpful information from you all in multiple threads here. I have a question regarding the K1 fiance visa.
I know that once my foreign fiance (From The Netherlands) enters the US, we have 90 days to get married. But I'm curious about how long the fiance has to get to the US once the fiance visa has been approved. This whole process pretty much makes planning a wedding impossible. You can't book venues, you can't send "save-the-dates". So I'm wondering what the time limit is on how long you have from final approval to needing to arrive in the US. I haven't been able to find this particular detail anywhere.
Any information you all can provide to me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!!

According to what I read in http://travel.state.gov/contenthttps...iance-k-1.html.

    After You Receive a K-1 Fiancé(e) Visa
If you are issued a K-1 visa, the Consular Officer will give you your passport containing the K-1 visa and a sealed packet containing the civil documents you provided, plus other documents prepared by the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. It is important that you do not open the sealed packet. Only the DHS immigration official should open this packet when you enter the United States. As the K-1 visa holder, you must enter the United States either before or at the same time as any qualifying children holding K-2 visas.

With your visa, you can apply for a single admission at a U.S. port-of-entry within the validity of the visa, You must marry your U.S. citizen fiancé(e) within 90 days of your entry into the United States.

The last part states after it's issue your fiance would have 6 months to use it for a one time entry into the states after which you must be married in 90 days.

So 6 months. Well that is super helpful. I was worried that once it was issued, he'd have to get here ASAP. That is a relief. Thanks so much, Yuri!!

Be cautious if you are counting on the whole six months to enter. The six month clock starts ticking from the date of the medical. Not a big deal if your medical is shortly before your interview, but if there is a substantial gap, this shortens the time to enter the US.
