My fiancée and I are trying to get prepared for the embassy interview which includes getting the required documents together. There are currently SO many different sources of information regarding this, and many are conflicting. I hired a lawyer’s office to help with this process but they don’t seem to have the answers either. The embassy website says one thing, this website says another, ustraveldocs help site is also different. I’m hoping someone on this website can help me shed some light on these questions.
The interview will be held in Jordan and my fiancée is a Kyrgyz citizen.
First question, “Civil Status Certificate,” my understanding is that this is required only for Jordanian citizens. USTravelDocs and my lawyer agree on this. However, USTravelDocs also says “your fiancée should provide a document stating that she is not married.” I’ve never heard about this until recently and we have no idea what document this might be. Will they require this at an embassy interview or will the “Fiancee letter of Intent” suffice?
Second, are original Birth Certificate and any Name Change certificates (originals) required at the interviews? The list of documents required shown on the embassy webpage only states that birth certificates are required for minors accompanying you. My fiancée also changed her name at one point however. We can get the documents but they are currently at her home and will be hard and expensive to get mailed (100+ dollars, don’t ask me why, I have no idea). Our lawyer says the name change cert will possibly be required but NOT birth certificate original. USTravelDocs tells me that the birth cert will definitely be required… any advice?
Third, police reports from Afghanistan. She spent over year working in Afghanistan and normally any such trip would require police certificates from that country. However, I understand that Afghanistan is one of those countries that such documents are not required from. Is this true? Any advice?
Last, Vaccinations; the list of required vaccinations is like 10-12 items long. I’ve heard that these are not required until applying for change of status and that they are not required for the interview. Any information on this? As a side not, she has no documentation showing the vaccinations she has already received, not sure how this will effect things.
Thank you for any help with these questions.
