I know this varies greatly depending on the person, but what is an average waiting period from the time you file a petition and actually receiving a visa. Thank you.

Your question needs to be more specific, as no one answer fits all.

Which visa type? Is the petitioner a U.S. citizen or not? In which country does the applicant live?

      Rayb,

We are filing for a k1 fiance visa. My fiance and I live in her home country of Peru with our son. I am the petitioner and a U.S citizen, but will probably need a cosponsor. Hope this helps and thanks in advance for your advice.

        BBB,

Thx for the clarification. Fiancee visa are averaging 4-8 months, from submittal of paperwork to Embassy interview. The 4-month span is about the lowest being seen (though 3 months and 2 weeks was recently reported by one friend).

Your student loans status and any other credit-related issues do not affect an immigration procedure.

Thanks for the info. Also have another question. I have been abroad for about two years now and during that time one of my student loans went into default. I thought the loan was in deferment but this was not the case. I am working now to get this cleared up. Will this situation cause problems if I am petitioning for my fiance or is this something that will be handled later during the process. Thanks again.
