Hi Guys,
My girlfriend (USA) and I (UK) have decided to apply to get married on a K1 visa (not applied for yet). I am entering the USA on a ESTA tourist visa (granted last year) in December for 80 days. I'm not sure what I should say at the border, here is the situation:
In anticipation of this trip I left my job (I have a lot of savings) and started my own business (lifetime ambition). It's only small (digital marketing) but does ok. I am also helping out with my family's property management business but I am not getting paid for this and have no documentation. I should however have documentation that registers me for paying tax in the UK for my digital marketing business.
I am concious that when I get to the border on an ESTA visa I will get red flagged if I say digital marketing as it can be done anywhere in the world, whereas if I say property management I imagine I will be fine, however when it comes to filling in the K1 form for work history - I'll have to put property management during this period but I have no documentation to prove this.
So it's sort of a catch 22 situation - or am I just worrying too much? Do you have any advice?
I have visited the USA 3 times in the last year (the last being 4th of July for a week) and each time declared that I have a girlfriend, however I have no solid job this time and a small business - would I get red flagged? Obviously I have no intention of overstaying as we are doing the K1 visa so I want to make sure everything is legit.
Just for the record I have no intention of breaking visa rules and will stop work during my time in the USA.
