Hi all,
I brought my now wife to the US on a K-1 visa and I had no trouble with any of the process, until recently. I received in the mail a request for initial evidence that I submit a copy of the marriage certificate from where we were married. We were married in Indiana and ordered 4 copies of the marriage license, which they notarized and said were the only official documents they give out. We also purchased a marriage certificate book that the judge and witnesses signed, though the county said it was only a souvenir.
When it was time to file the AOS, I sent in one of the marriage licenses with my packet. Now it may have been lost in the process of sending the documents between offices, but as I have been calling Indiana, both the county we were married in and the secretary of state, they say that the marriage license is the only official document. The county no longer gives out certificates at any time, and the secretary of state's office will only stamp the license when it is being used overseas, to notify her country or embassy about our marriage. It is not used at all by the USCIS and what we have should be all that is needed.
I figured it might have just been lost in the shuffle, but I figured since this forum has helped me in the process before I should put my situation out here.
