  • K1 visa questions

My fiance is in China and we have met there in China. I just received notice that the K1 process is moving to her interview stage in a few weeks at a consulate in China. I want us to be prepared fully but I am not sure what papers she will need to bring to the interview. Does she get a list there? Will she have lists of doctors to get her physical done by? If I send my financial and other papers to show my wage earnings I am reluctant to have my social security number and other personal information spread around. I trust her completely but I am reluctant to trust others. To compound matters my fiance does not know English well.

I will be there in China to see her again in February. Would it be hard to arrange the interview to be done when I am there?

    Thank You
    Dale

    interview stage

    Dale,
If your case is in the interview stage, then it's probably a long time coming. The Embassy should have mailed her a K1 application package, where she had to submit some paperwork. They also give a checklist of what to bring to the interview. This list (also online) contains the approved physicians who can perform the medical exam. You'll have to send over your IRS transcript along with a I-134 for financials for the interview. As for the timing of the interview, some embassies allow you to schedule the date, while others schedule for you. So, you'll have to see the deal when your fiancee get's the actual invitation to apply for a k1 visa from the Embassy.
    -Good luck

Good luck. I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to. Immigration is interesting. Not considered as legal advice.

Thank you. Yes we are in the interview stage. I found out what you told me before I saw your reply but thanks. As many do, I am doing this without a lawyer and with my fiance not knowing English or I Chinese. "What Fun"
