Will my debt of $20,000 total (personal loan of $13,000 and $7,000 credit card debt) and bad credit history affect my fiance s K1 visa? I will be his sponsor and I am making above the poverty level. $24,000 for the year 2014 and $40,000 for the year 2015. I will be filing his documents in May of 2016 (this year). But I m a little worried about how high my debt is vs. being his sponsor for the K1 visa. The debt is too high because I cant afford to pay them of yet because of other financial obligations with family. So, will my debt be a problem when it comes to his K1 visa?

I believe you debt isn't an issue for filing or even at the interview. I'm seeing possible problems up ahead when it comes time for the AOS. The negative Statement of Net worth might raise concerns.--Good luck--
