  • I-130 and Consular processing in Australia

My spouse and I have just filed our I-130 petition and I reluctantly returned to Australia after getting married. From what I've seen on this site most seem to go the other way and get some kind of fiancé visa and apply to change their status when in the US. Mostly for practical economical reasons we haven't done it this way. I have a relatively good job here so thought it best I continue working and earning money instead of waiting for employment authorisation in the US.

Does anyone have any tips, timelines etc for doing it this way? There is supposedly a 5 month wait first of all, then the NVC processing and then waiting for an appointment in Australia. Has anyone recently done the same thing and can share how the experience went for them. Any info would be appreciated. My biggest concern is the waiting time. As I'm sure for everyone, it sucks being away from your spouse for such long periods of time.

    Thanks
