Hello everyone!
Im not sure if this is the proper place to ask this question, but I hope it is. So to make a short story long, I am american(upstate new york), I married my wife who is a canadian(montreal, quebec) in feb. of 2016. We filed the petition for alien relative in april of 2016. The Uscis approved our paperwork and we were sent over to visa center. We have filled out the ds-260, paid all of our fees and I have all of our paperwork in order, except for my I-864. I have been trying to figure it out all damn day. I filled mine out, but I am a student working 2 jobs and I do not have enough money to support my wife. I currently live with my parents and my younger 20 year old sister. I am not a dependent on my parents tax returns, seeing as I work a lot and Im almost 28 years old, (dont judge me yall, im trying to save money). I have lived in their home for a number of years and it is the address on my passport and all of my documents. My mother has agreed to jointly sponsor my wife. my mother by herself, if she adds my father, my wife, herself, and my younger sister as members of her household size, (number 8 part 5 of the I-864) does not make sufficient funds. I read somewhere that she cannot combine her income with mine to meet the requirement, if this is untrue, please tell me. My father is the one who makes the big bucks here, and he would be more than happy to also jointly sponsor. If my mother and I are able to combine our income, we exceed the requirment by about 700 dollars for a household of 5. But, I could always scratch my mother and add my father as a joint sponsor. Here is where the other question lies. Do my parents, if I use my mother or father, do they have to fill out an I-864 in addition to mine as well as an I-864a.....also for my mothers tax documents, she filed joint taxes with my father that welllll exceeds the amount needed. Does the requirment go off of just her income, or does it include my fathers by default because they are married and file jointly....
Thank you for any answers, I will greatly appreciate any help here, it is truly driving me nuts.
