I am a USA citizen (with dual passports/nationalities) that has been living in Spain for over 3 years and moved to London, UK late last year for work. I have been with my girlfriend (and now fiance) who has Spanish/Argentine citizenship for the whole time (almost 4 years).
We were planning to get married (hold the civil ceremony) in the UK this September and then take almost 6-9 months to travel (mostly in Africa) before moving to the USA.
As we understand she needs to obtain a K1 visa to legally come with me to the USA, we plan to immediately file form I-130 with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and apply for green card with National Visa Center (NVC) afterwards (which I understand the whole process can take about 6-9 months).
The main reason I'm writing this post is to understand the timings and risks related to us traveling to Africa after we have the civil ceremony in the UK and start the K1 (USA) based visa process.
For example...
* Is it okay to travel during this time?
* Could it take longer than 6 months to go through the whole process of obtaining the K1 visa?
* Would we need to fly back to London (or could we do it at an embassy in Southern Africa) the "interview" with the immigration officer?
* Any other relevant info we need to know regarding the timings and/or risks associated with the plan above?
Thank you
Rob
