  • Limited Financial History but Good Current Finances and Support

    Hello,

This is my first post so please bare with me if I leave out vital information. My (Indian) boyfriend and I are planning on applying for the Fiance visa in May however, I don't have a substantial financial history. We are both graduating college in May and I have a good job lined up however, because I have been studying, I have only been working part time. HOWEVER, I will be working full-time and have a package lined up.

The job offer is $35,000 a year however it will not start until I graduate in May (about the same time I hope to apply for fiance visa). I am working in an internship at the company part-time but I won't be making a salary until I'm full time. Would my financial history (or lack there of) be a problem. My boyfriend is a Mechanical Engineer studying at University of London and I will be graduating from a good US university with a Bachelor of Science in Urban Studies and environmental development so we have good academic backgrounds. (I'm not sure if they at all care about out potential to make money)

My mother has substantial assets and makes around $700,000 a year and she is willing to financially help us however, I know a co-sponsor is very much frowned upon and I'd prefer not to lean on for her for financial support if I don't absolutely have to.

**Also will our ages impact the decision? I am 22 years old and my bf is 23 years old

Thanks for any and all help <3

Your "history" of finances does not really play a role in the Affidavit of Support (save a few rare cases). Your "current" finances are what really matter. Since you'll be earning above the poverty limits by the time the interview occurs, you don't have to worry. You'll be asked to submit your tax returns for the past year. However, since you'll probably didn't file (or you had too little income to show), you're going to have to submit a signed letter stating that you recently started working and have an xx,xxx salary. You'll be submitting a "job letter" from your employer stating the fact that you're current income is xx,xxx. That's enough to prove to the consulate that you're eligible to support the intending immigrant on your own.
Yes, you can also have your mother's affidavit of support as a joint sponsor. But from what you've told so far, I don't think you'll need one.
    Good luck
    --Good luck--
Good luck. I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to. Immigration is interesting. Not considered as legal advice.
