Delaying K-1 Visa Application Midway Through?

I have recently returned from the states and am planning to marry my fiancée in March of next year. We are about to start the K1 visa application but we are wondering when would be a good time for me to visit her in the states without jeopardising the application. I have read that the foreign fiancé has 4 months to complete the paperwork once they send it to me? Which is usually 3-4 months into the application timeline. Could I safely return to the states during this time and complete the paperwork when I return to my home country?

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

So long as you are in contact with the Embassy and meeting requirements, the 4-month duration of the petition approval is automatically extended, as needed.

So long as the visa you are using (to enter the U.S>) is valid and you are allowed into the States with an exiting K1 procedure in process, all you have to worry aobut are meeting of medical exam and Embassy interview requirements.
