Hello, everyone. I have a few questions I was hoping to find questions to before I get a lawyer.
This first one I'm not really worried about. I'm 40 and work in a job which does a full background check, as it's government related work, which I passed. But I have a misdemeanor domestic violence on my record from 20 years ago. Do you think this will cause a problem in bringing a woman I want to marry here to the U.S. from Germany?
Also, I was divorced 4 years ago. I didn't contest it as she moved out of state to file and I couldn't afford to. She was able to get a lifetime restraining order against me as part of the divorce decree. She filed in California while I was living in Michigan. Will this give us a problem in me trying to bring her over here?
Finally, I've read through the forms and they seem pretty straightforward. What advantage would I have in getting am attorney?
Thanks for any experience or wisdom you can share.
