  • New and Confused about AOS/Advanced Parole

Hi, so glad to have found this forum.

After the grueling K-1 visa process my fiance arrive in the US on May 23rd. We got married May 25th, filed for AP/work permit/AOS and got notice it was received June 18th.

Biometric appointment was 3 weeks later. They said he would have his Advanced Parole within 90 days

He had a family emergency (mother needed surgery) and got emergency permission to travel for 70 days. Left Aug 1. At the interview when he got emergency travel paper, the lady said he either had to be back in the US before Oct 4 when the 70 days were up OR if I got the advanced parole doc before Oct 4 and mailed it to him, he would be ok to stay in his country longer before returning.

Well today I logged in to check status and it says an interview was scheduled (September 20) and a notice was mailed a couple days ago (have not gotten it yet). What is he being interviewed for? I thought there was no interview for travel docs/work permit and the interview for adjustment of status is typically almost a year after submitting everything.

Trying to judge whether he needs to fly back for this interview (he would if he can leave again as he is sole caregiver for his mom while she recovers) or to reschedule and also what is the interview for?

    Thank you for feedback/advice/info

There is no interview for travel papers. It is for AOS. The interview can be scheduled any time, and depends on the local office regarding wait times. Some people wait for several months before getting called for their interview, while others are very lucky and get their interview letters very fast. Would not recommend postponing the interview, since you might get your next turn after a very long wait. Better get done with the interview and get the GC.
Just an opinion; Not legal advice.
