Do you need to stay in the US after getting married?

Hi,

I'm hoping to plan to get married to my partner at the end of the year, what I'm trying to find out though is after marrying, do I need to stay in the US for a certain period of time or can I fly back? We're both students in college/university at the moment so the most I'd still be in the US for is another month/month and a half. Is this enough time? I've read that you cannot fly while adjusting my status and all the information I've found is off this thread:

The plan was to propose around December and do the Marriage in January and I'd have to leave by mid february to get back to university, will this process take longer than a month?

Adjustment of Status will often take around a year, sometimes more. You cannot leave the US while AOS is pending unless you already have an approved Advance Parole, or you will automatically abandon your AOS. You can apply for EAD and Advance Parole at the same time as applying for AOS, and EAD/AP often takes 5 or 6 months to get these days. If you leave the US without applying for AOS or if you abandon AOS, you will have to start over by your spouse petitioning you as a spouse and you going through Consular Processing abroad for an immigrant visa, the whole process taking at least a year.
