    Gather papers

You should gather ur papers. Read them. And start one by one. If u don't have them get them from uscis.gov. Fill them them check them. Read over and over until u get it.

You're best options are the K-1 (fiancee) visa, or the K-3 (spouse) visa.

The K-1 fiancee visa, once granted, will allow you to travel to the US together to be married. Once you are married, you then apply for a green card while you both continue to live in the US.

Your other option is to get married in Germany or Iraq, then apply for the K-3 spouse visa. Once issued, the K-3 will allow him to go to the US and continue to live there while he is applying for the green card.

I am going through the K-1 visa process now. My fiancee is German and we are living together in China. I would recommend doing the K-1 instead of the K-3 because it is less daunting and the process is a bit shorter.

There are two questions that you need to answer before you start the process:

1.) Have you met/visited him in the last two years?
If you have not seen each other in the last two years, you will need to before you can apply.

2.) Do you have evidence of your relationship?
You need to have a decent number of things like pictures of you together, emails, plane ticket reciepts, etc to prove that you are in a relationship.

All of the papers necessary to file for the K-1/K-3 visa are available on the USCIS website, however their description of the process is vague and incomplete. I would highly suggest hiring an immigration attorney to help you through the process. A good attorney charges about $1500 to help you get the K-1 or K-3. Green card is a seperate fee and process. I suggest you get an attorney for two reasons:
1.) They are experts in the process, and can tell you exactly what you need to do and when you need to do it.
2.) Since you live outside the US, the attorney can be given power of attorney to act as your represenative in the US.

      This should get you started!
