  • "Instant" visa

This was taken from a recent article in the Washington Post. Can someone comment on this please, I want to know if it's true and, if so, how I need to proceed.

My fiance' is Canadian and it would be a simple matter for her to come down from Toronto and get married here.

    Here's the quote.

"Immigrants who marry U.S. citizens can get a visa to stay in the country immediately, instead of having to wait years, and can shave several years off gaining citizenship."

The writer of the article, like many americans, do not understnd immigration law completely. Spouses of US citizens get "Immediate" relative status and so do not have to wait for a priority date to become current before they can be interviewed and there's no quota unlike the other categories. They still have to wait at least a few months and attend the interview either here or overseas. Yes, they can shave 2 yrs off the wait for citizenship, provided that they are still married to the US Citizen when they apply but theres no "instant" visa. Just like with any other category, even another non immigrant one, filing for chnage of status allows one to stay . Be careful of what you read..th e info is only as good as the person writing it

        not true

Trust me, my wife and I are going through the process. USCIS will look at this as trying to get around the process.

The best way is the K1 Visa, then adjust status. Involve your Senators and Cogressional Representative.

We have had so many wrong things told to us.
