  • Did NVC Mess Up?

After sending off our I-129F and I-130 petitions in September and October of 2006 to Vermont, on Feb. 5th my wife received a letter from the US embassy in Manila stating that her physical examination was scheduled in the Philippines on March 27th and her interview for our K-3 visa would be held on April 3rd. The letter also said she would need, among other papers, my completed I-134 Affidavit of Support at the time of the interview. However, in yesterday's mail, I received an envelope from the National Visa Center in NH stating that until I send $70 to the NVC in St. Louis to cover the fee for an I-864 AOS, our case could not be processed. "When we receive your AOS fee, we will send you further information on the Affidavit of Support (I-864) forms," they wrote. Don't they realize that my wife's exam is going to happen in about 2 weeks from now? While I plan to call the NVC in NH tomorrow for clarification, I can't help thinking that something is amiss here; does anyone else?

    NVC Update

In response to my above post, I learned this morning from a very knowledgeable representative at the National Visa Center in Portsmouth, NH why I received the letter about the I-864 AOS. It is connected to the I-130 petition and should be disregarded at this time. My wife's interview at the US embassy in April is part of our I-129F petition. If her visa is approved at that time, the representative told me that the letter from the NVC may never need to be acted upon. She said that if I had sent the $70 to the NVC to process the I-864 as directed, I would not be refunded for that money. She told me about a couple who had lost $370 in a similar way.

You're kidding! When did you send your petitions off? And which office handled them? No, I'm not going to be in Manila with her but I sure wish I was. I'll need my vacation days for when she arrives--hopefully in mid April!

My wife got her packet 2 weeks ago from embassy. It turns out they changed procedures now and you dont use the forms in the packet. I sent my wife to BPI , we have an account there together, the bank told her that they now give a stamped i-157 form with reciept and then she needed to go online and fill out the online form for the i-156 and print it out with the barcode on it. I told my wife to call the embassy call center, she did , and they varified what the bank told her. LOL so far i'm not very impressed with the whole immigration system, its very inefficient . Anyway i'm going to the interview with her , i want to make sure they dont pull any BS with her. From what I have read, it seems like wives who go alone get a real hassle. I'm not going to the medical exam though. But I heard there are a couple doctors there who look for the slightest thing wrong so they can stop the release. If you even cough, they put a hold on you. My wife has been jogging for the past month everyday so she is really strong for the exam LOL. I'm just worried about getting the visa delived quick, i think the Easter Holiday is going to slow everything down. I'm staying 3 weeks just incase they take too long.
Mine was submitted to Texas but then it was forwarded to California for faster processing, they say.
I've been through the med exam without my husband while other wives had their husbands with them.We were all treated fairly whether you have your husband with you or not. And they just want to make sure that your whole being is ready for medical check up.

            Questions During K-3 Visa Interview

My wife will have her Visa interview in Manila on the 3rd of April and is a bit worried about what they'll ask her. Has anyone here gone through the Q and A process or had a friend who did? How long did it take? Which questions did they ask? Any information will be greatly appreciated !! Thanks...
