any advice -- please help

hi i am a u.s. citizen and my husband entered the u.s. illegaly and we have already filied the paperwork (I-130/I-864 & I-864A/3032/I-212/DS-230 part 1) is there anything esle missing? so far all were waiting for is the appointment to the consulate in mexico in the 7-8mth i had sent an email to the consulate in mexico and they said in about a yr from when they recieve the paperwork we will get our interview - friend of mine had went to mex with her husband to get his papers to enter the u.s. and he was denied entry and punished for about a yr - is there anything that we can do so this wont happen to us? any other form we should fill ? oh- she said that we would have to fill out form I-601 would we have to if have done form I-212
any advice would help us alot- and if any advice for my friend about how she can get her husband back soon
