F1 completing OP..need help about k1

I am a Indian citizen currently on F1 visa. I am on my OPT and have to complete my thesis to get my Masters degree.My OPT completion date is May 20th 2008. I have an American Boyfriend and we would like to get married..however I dont know whether it will be better to get married now..or leave the country after opt and he can come down to india where we will get engaged and then come back to america on a K1 visa. Please help.
