i'm a soldier in the army and i am currently stationed in the middle east. i am engaged to my fiance and i currently have no clue what the first step is in the visa process. we want to get married back in the states but between her contract and my deployment it might be awile. she lived in the states for awile up until about 5 years ago they came back to iraq. she currently has a visa that was granted to her by the consulate in turkey, but she was forced to extend her contract here. that visa expires in december 07 but she is contracted until august 08. she has been a linguist for the army for the past 4years. i am stationed here until about august of next year as well. neither of us has any idea of how we're going to pull off getting married in the state's (or even how to do it). is there any advice????

no she is not. but she has gone through the embassy at ankara for her current visa. but as i said that expires in december. she's contracted with the military as a translator and grew up in the states. her family moved back ere after the cessation of hostilites in 03.

that's the problem. she's an iraqi citizen. she doesn't have status in the states becasue she didn't live there long enough 1 and 2 her family resigned citizenship when the moved back here (iraq). she only has the turkish visa because myself and my platoon of fellow medic's plus our brigade surgeoun and about 30 other officer's wrote letter's of good faith in her. that plus 4 years of service in a combat zone did wonders. the problem now is that the army renegotiated her contract and she either has the choice of break that contract and lose the visa or honor the ontract and (possibly) get another visa down the line. either way when she breaks from the army the embassy in turkey won't talk to her. kinda a sucky situation.

okay that might be the only option. then have just a ceremony when we get back to the states. we were trying to avoid that because she is muslim and i am christen......it's kinda an oil and water thing here. or to be more exact flame and gasoline. but hey, it's worth a try, i'll pitch it to her at dinner tonight. thanx.
