working visa expired & wants to marry a US citiizen

I hv a US citizen friend who met a guy from the internet & after a week or so they intend to marry claiming they are both inlove. The guy's working visa already expired but they are planning to get married 6 mos. from now. What will be the consequences of this? Is it true that you can have ur working visa expire and marry to be able to stay legally in US? We are very much concerned w/ our friend. Any advice? Thanks alot to whoever would take time to reply back.

If he entered legally to the US he can marry an US citizen. Even if his visa has expired.

Advice. Do not marry someone after "meeting" them online for 1 week. Marriage is not a game or a way to get a green card. USCIS will question this marriage harshly against it being a fraud.
