  • New to K-1 Process

Okay, I am kind of new to the k-1 process, probably many people that come here first are. I am interested in getting engaged and married to a woman from the philippines. I am curious in what the timeline is for the process and what is the average time to get a visa approved. I have heard from rumors that it takes up to two years.

What are some things that slow the process down and what are some things that can make it move smoothly. Any suggestions or advise would be great. Thanks for the time.

The process averages 10-14 months. It depends on the local embassy too.

The one thing that may slow the process down is "administrative review"... but you can not do much about it, so you really should not worry too much.

I appreciate the advise. I was told to just file the initial form the 485 for now and send the rest at a later time, is it better to do that or make a copy and send the whole packet at once so that they have the file built already for the review?

Not sure whats the best method. I was also told that it is best to get lots of pictures together, our emails that we send to each other, along with a receipt for the engagement ring.

Let me know your thoughts on this, thanks again for the help.

The I-485 will be at a later time... almost towards the end of the process, it is not the way to start.

Sorry about that I did not have the right form number in mind, i remembered that because it happened to be the same number as a piece of equipment i used in the army, or close to it.

The forms that i have found are as follows, someone correct me if i am wrong
          I-129F Petition for Alien Fiance(e)
          G-325A Biographic Information(2 Copies)

It seems most of the paperwork is really just supporting documents. Such As I have in my Immigration folder, my passport, my Birth Certificate, my Social Security Card(Copy), my Divorce Degree(was married previously to an amerian).

If I am under the right assumption, I will also need to get Passport photos for both myself and my fiancee for the evaluation procedure, a copy(in english) of her birth certificate, and her police record from where she lives(philippines). I was also told by another person to have copies of our emails, photos of my visit to the philippines, a reciept for a wedding ring, and also written statements of intent to marry from both myself and my fiancee.

I also read that there will be a need for a medical examination for my fiancee, when does this take place is this a part of her interview with the embassy.

Also, I have seen some places, but not sure if i understood something about a accelerated entry where if there are no issues in the fiancee's past(criminal record I am assuming) that one can file through the cosulate. Is this correct and what is the difference in the procedure than just filing through(california office since i am resident in Indiana). Or did i misread this?

Also, does anyone have a good comparison/case study as far as the time for a k1 for fiancee versus getting married in her country and then filing for immigration of a family member? The big difference with the Philippines marriage is I would need to stay there for I think 3 weeks because of the country's marriage laws.
