hello -- I am a US citizen, my husband came over on the visa waiver, while he was here, we got married on Dec 5th 2007. We filed the whole adjustment package and mailed it to the Chicago lockbox on Jan 4th 2008. We still have not received our receipt notice. He can not work or anything, and now has past his time frame to leave. I keep contacting uscis and they tell me that he will be fine here until they get everything processed as long as he does not leave the country. Has anyone else ever done this before? If so PLEASE tell me everything that happened. Thank you - anxiously waiting on the visa - shannon or email me @ [email protected]

As soon as he filed I-485 and it was received by USCIS. He is in legal status, he is allowed to stay in the USA until a decision is made in his case. BUT he should NOT LEAVE the USA, until he gets his Green Card.
The only problem is, he has not received the receipt, so for now... lay low profile and wait until you guys get the receipt. Did you mail the entire package? I-130, I-485, I-693, I-864, I-131, I-765, G-325a? Did you get delivery confirmation on it?Disclaimer: The information you obtain from me at this forum is not, nor is it intended to be, legal advice. Yes, we filed everything, I sent it via regular mail, but still haven't gotten a receipt letter -- so we are waiting - it is such a long process! Just bored because he can't work until we get a work permit/visa and now his drivers license are no good here. I called my insurance company to add him on and they said they do not recognize an international license, so he would be graded same as a 16 year old driver! Crazy this stuff -
