Birth certificate for children

Hello,

If my fiance (Brazil) does not intend to bring his child with him to the states, do we still need to have the child's birth certificate? I'm asking this question because I was told by my fiance's mother that the mother of his child will no way in hell provide the birth certificate. By the way, my fiance is not listed on the birth certificate as the child's father.

There's other ways to get the birth certificate. In the US, for example, you would contact your state's Bureau of Vital Statistics office to get a copy of the birth certificate.

Many countries require that you not only be current on your court-ordered child support, but demonstrate that you will be able to meet it in the future.
