Here you go ... some of the answers ...

My girlfriend is coming to india on tourist visa to marry me.

    --> Good for you. Congratulations.

Can you please tell me what is required in this process and for what kind of visa i should apply after marrying her?

--> For what? Is she settling down in India with you or are you travelling to her home country?

Can an american citizen marry an indian if she has tourist visa?
--> Yes, of course. No issues here.
Make sure you have the documentation done and get your marriage certificate.

    Good luck.

      thanks for helping

Can you please suggest me one more thing. She is arriving here on friday night and we want to marry on sunday. Because it's my birthday on sunday....... Can you please tell me can she get no objection certificate from America and can bring that along with her?

And she is willing to settle down in india but she has a job in america and I am also planning for my masters so we would move to usa after marrying because it is difficult to marry her in usa. We love each other a lot and want to live with each other after marriage.

thanks a lot for your reply.

I'll try to answer your questions ...

        ...

--> Why and from whom does she need any NOC to marry in India? She can marry legally in India without any let or hindrance.
You do need to follow the procedures in India to register for your marriage certificate.
If you're going through the Indian customary ritual wedding, your "pandit" will have the knowledge and the documents.

And she is willing to settle down in india but she has a job in america and I am also planning for my masters so we would move to usa after marrying because it is difficult to marry her in usa. We love each other a lot and want to live with each other after marriage.
--> I am sorry here, wait for someone else to respond or contact an attorney in India to help you with a long stay visa for her to stay in India.
Also, while she's in India, she can apply for your permanent residency for US and I believe the best approach is to apply in New Delhi AMCON.

Search through the forum using the advance option and you'll find bountiful information.

        Good luck.

          Hi,

Thanks for replying fast, NOC is required to marry a foreign national according to marriage laws. Please suggest me can she get this certificate from USA.

And after marrying can she apply for K3 visa in india?

And how long it takes after marriage for me to enter USA?

          Thanks

            You seem to ...

... know the Indian laws really well. However, you're the first person I know amongst at least 25 who mentioned about the NOC.

In plain English, I know at least 25 United States citizens get married in India to Indian citizens without any NOC.

As I mentioned, there's a ton of valuable information in this forum, just use the advance search and you'll find all that you need.

            Good luck.

                Ok ...

... I may be wrong, but this is what I gathered from the web site posting:

"If required, the Embassy can issue a “no objection” letter to any American citizen who wishes to obtain an Indian marriage certificate. "

Meaning, once you're married and want the marriage certificate, US Embassy will give her a NOC free of charge for the same.

So you can go ahead and marry immediately without any issues. Once you're married you can ask the US Embassy to give a NOC and only if this is requested by the registrar in India.

In most, most, most cases the registrar's don't ask for one and your "pandit" again would be able to do the processing himself.

So many American citizens marry Indian citizens in India, it's a piece of cake.

                Good luck.

Is it better to apply from india than US?

For how long I will have to wait in India to enter in US?
