  • Timeline regarding K1 visa

    Hello everyone,

I have just filed a K1 petition for fiance visa a week and a half ago. I understand that I won't receive a receipt for this until 30 days from time of filing. However, I was wondering for those who have gone through the process, about how much time elapsed between the filing of the petition to the cashing of the check for filing fees? I am checking my bank account every day but so far the check hasn't been cashed.

I guess I am just paranoid about the process and I would like a little peace of mind.

    Check cleared

My check cleared 5 days after being delivered to Vermont Service Center. The date on their official notice of receipt was 1 day after it arrived there, but it took over a week to get the copy in the mail. Approval of the petition came 50 days from filing. (Filing was in March 2008) It will not take 30 days to get the receipt unless you left something major out of your packet or forgot to sign your check. Call them up.

We filed our petition April, 4. Still NO reply from Vermont center. Have just checked their Processing Dates, Timeframe for K-1 is November, 2007. Does that mean our petition will be processed and we will get some news only after these 4 months from November,2007 to March,2008 are covered? Too long to wait.

If the check has not been cashed do not worry about it.
VSC is not the fastest processing center in processing or anything else.
        Yes, Im a VSC basher.

What do you mean by that? I worry because they are already out of the timeframe for the first NOA. We should have received it not later than 42 days according to their own rules! It's now 55 days and we are still waiting - no news from them. I start thinking that they might not have received our petition at all, or might have lost it. What then, start it up all again?
Oh, why does it take so long!!!

            Filed April 1, 2008

I filed my I-129F 4/1/08 and received my receipt number in the mail on 4/14/08. The letter indicted that my petition had been received and filed on 4/9/08.

I signed up to receive updates about my case via email, however i have not heard anything. I too am frustrated with the wait.

Based on timelines I have looked at:
Right now California Service Center is about halfway through people who filed K1s in January '08 (with some from earlier still waiting)

Vermont Service Center is halfway through K1 cases filed in March '08.

Be patient. It takes a while.

                    Thanks for the update Nichole

I am wondering where you found information on Processing times at the Vermont Service Center. I checked the USCIS website and it shows they are working on petitions filed in November 2007.

Any information you can give me regarding another resource I can check would be greatly appreciated.

Once again, thanks for your help.

                      K1 Visa - First Notice I-797C

I FedEx'd my I-129F package to the California Service Center in Laguna on 5/27/2008 and got the I-797C on 5/31/2008...4 days later.

                      Just for reference..
