gay marriage question

Hi There
I have a same sex partner who lives in Las Vegas but he is originally from California. I am originally from the UK and I am trying my hardest to move over to the states. I hear that same sex marriage has just become legal in California. Would I have a chance of getting a green card if I marry my partner in California? I am not very good with politics so please help me!

Chances are zero.

USCIS (and the federal government) does not recognize same sex marriages. So for immigration sponsorship/petition purposes, you are out of luck.

I think now it's possible. Weeks ago I was researching this topic because of the assignment and I also became curious about this matter. Surely, it is ok for straight marriages and it turned out it's ok for same-sex marriages. I found out that you can make a petitions and your partner can get a visa (details http://www.uscis.gov/family/same-sex-marriages).

On the contrary, fiancee and spousal visas for same sex couples are being processed and approved routinely by USCIS and the State Department. There may be a tighter level of review every step during the processing, but USCIS and State Department regulations, as the result of court decisions, are now favorable to same-sex visas.
