  • Original proof documents sent with I-129F, forgot to photocopy

My fiance and I filed for I-129F last month and we sent the original documents/proof i.e pictures, letters, bills, but we forgot to photocopy it.. we only photocopied the I-129F form and the other forms. Would this be a problem when time comes for my Embassy interview?

Please help me out on this. I just need some clarification

    Thanks!!!

The CIS forwards your petition and all supporting documents to the consulate. However, consulates love to pretend that all they have is the petition, so it's your job to bring in the rest.

A good example: A petitioner files I-864 Affidavit of Support with supporting documents, but keeps no copies of it. When beneficiary's turn for interview comes, consulate requires the beneficiary to bring in a copy of I-864 and the supporting documents, with a note that if beneficiary fails to bring any of the listed documents, beneficiary's visa may be denied. Faced with this, petitioner writes to the NVC for a copy of I-864. When the NVC finally replies, they say that I-864 was forwarded to the DOS archieves. Petitioner makes an FOIA request to the DOS for a copy of I-864. DOS writes: Consulate already has a copy of I-864. Would you like another copy? All that hassle for what?

If you have received the receipt that your petition is in the system, then you're ok. You should have a case number and be able to see it on the USCIS website. The only problem would be if they never got your petition and you had to send it again. Then you would be wishing you had made copies.

As to the interview, it is my understanding that you should bring evidence of a continuing relationship. That is new evidence from the time of filing the I-129F up to the interview to show you are stll a couple. You would write a new letter dated near interview time saying you still support the visa If you visit each other after filing, then you would show new passport stamps, boarding passes, photos together. You will have new phone bills and emails and birthday cards. And it depends on your fiance's country. I attended my fiance's interview recently and they did not ask to see any evidence of a continuing relationship, only the I-134 Affidavit of Support, 2007 tax return and a letter of employment. Filapinas often take elaborate scrapbooks because that seems to be what is expected there.

What country are you dealing with? People might have more information to offer you.

          Hey there Nichole.

We got the I-797 Notice of Action (receipt notice) already. So, I hope that should be fine now, right? Good.I'll just have to gather new proofs for the interview then. I am Philippine citizen but will be having my interview in Bermuda, as I have been working here for 3+ yrs now. My fiance is also Filipino but now a naturalized US citizen.

hey everyone. i'm actually new to this website, and i wish i had found it before. i'm in the same boat as the author of the thread. i forgot to make photocopies of the entire petition before sending it off back in june. i received the notice saying they received it, and have been keeping track of it and everything SEEMS to be going according to schedule. my fiance is losing her mind though because of the copies thing and I just wanted to know if there was a way to get copies of things, or if we can print new ones out to present. i'm going back to visit her in a couple of months so we'll have more pics and of course convos to show. any help is appreciated you guys, thanks!

btw. my fiance is german, and we're filing with the Vermont Service Center is that helps.

You do not have to have an entire copy of your petition for any official reason. It's suggested because it's always best practice to copy anything you submit for reference or in case it never gets to the USCIS. You won't submit any of those things again. Your whole file is sent to the Embassy. Take new pictures and document new visits to take to the Embassy for the interview as was mentioned belfore. When the foreign fiance prepares the documents to be submitted to the Embassy in Germany (or Bermuda), again it's best practice to make extra photocopies before sending them off so you have something to refer to if you wonder later what you put on it or wonder, "did I leave off____". The Embassy forms can not be saved on your computer like the I-129F and g-325A, so you will have no record if you print and mail off (or take) to the Embassy without making a photocopy. (Note: some Embassies have you mail in those forms ahead of time, some have you submit to a contracted service, some have you take everything to the interview so you will have to follow the instructions you get from the Embassy when the time comes. Often you can find information from the country's website, but some don't put much info. Google: US Embassy Frankfort, US Embassy Hamilton.
