  • Embassy closed- What now?

The US Embassy in the country where I am living (Venezuela) has just closed. The president kicked the ambassador out. I'm not sure how long they will be closed, but I haven't been able to get ahold of anyone there so far.

How will this affect the K3 process? We were planning on filing ASAP. I realize it will be some time before out case has anything to do with the embassy, but if it's still closed, then what??

Contact DOS on how they will handle it. In general, a neighboring country consulate might be the next option that DOS chooses.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

DOS is a very fat bureaucracy. Without knowing exactly who to call within, you can call all day and still not get a straight answer on established matters, let alone something this new.

If you are just filing, write down Caracas anyway; if you are in the middle of it, wait and see which embassy mails beneficiary the visa packet; and if it's already been 5 months since petition approval, contact the NVC by email.
