  • K1 - Lost my UK passport

    Hi,

I was successful in my K1 petition and was granted a Visa to come to the US.

We got married, moved into an apartment together (Alhambra, California) and everything has been great. We needed to supply some additional info but, although we've been waiting for quite a while for an interview date, everything seems on track.

Unfortunately, my only photo ID is my passport. Since I needed to carry it pretty much everywhere I guess it was only a matter of time until it got lost or stolen. We narrowed the loss down to a specific day, retraced our steps, contacted the relevant Lost&Found departments at a store and another mall and informed the local police department.

But it's gone and so are my K1 Visa sticker and I-94.

I've since replaced my passport and straight away attempted to go get a Cali Photo ID from the DMV (no way am I losing this passport!), which would have been fine except my new passport has no Visa sticker. The guy at the DMV said to go downtown and get a Visa "stamp" but looking online I find no appropriate office for doing so.

    So my questions are:

What are the consequences of losing my K1 Visa sticker and I-94? I'd assumed the K1 Visa sticker's function was done now that I'm here and they scribbled on it..

What is the process for getting a new Visa sticker or "stamp" in my passport? Or does the sticker need to be replaced / reapplied for?

Does the I-94 need to be replaced?

Any information would be great. I trawled the forum before signing up and couldn't find a single reference to lost passports within the first 40 pages of results (manually) or at all when running a search.

Other forums / Googling have mentioned needing to return to your original country to re-apply, but those were for employment type Visas and I hope a K1 would not be subject to this.

    Thanks,

    Grant
