  • Income Tax and dependents

Hi everyone,my husband and i are confused about our income tax.I've been here and my 2 kids for 4 months and we haven't filed our AOS yet. We're hoping to get as much refund as we could get.My questions are.

1.)Do i really need a TIN and my kids in order to claim as depedents?
2.) Do we need to file jointly or just married?whats the difference? But i dont have a job yet.
3.)Can my husband file for extention of filing since we have a situation like

We're waiting for my kids passport-we renewed it and it should be here around April hopefully. And we need to to file TIN

The IRS told my husband that we can file 6 months extention coz of this circumantances...is this really true and possible? Thanks in advance

What is your status in US? Yes you need ITIN if you dont have a SSN.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.
