Entered on K-3 visa

Hello, my husband enetered the USA on a K-3 visa. How do he get the work authorization? SS#? Will he have to wait for the Adjustment of status to be approved? If status is not adjusted before the expiration date what will happen? Right now we do not have $1,010.00 for the adjustment of status application. Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Your husband can apply for employment authorization. However, the fees are $340. The fee is waived if you apply it with AOS. After you get the card, he can apply for a SSN. If his K-3 visa expires, they'll not renew it. So, he can't re-enter the country if he leaves unless you reapply! Also, they won't renew his work authorization if it expires while you still didn;t apply for adjustment of status.
