Can you change from K1 to K3

Hello. My Canadian fiance and I put our I-129F and has been approved. He received his packet for the K-1 visa and we were hoping to marry in June but we don't think everything will be approved by June. My question is can we get married and request a K3 instead of a K1 or should we postpone and wait for the K1?

Even with the fact that you need to file the I-129F for either visa?

Yes, you fill I-129F for both visas. But the required documents to process the application are different. So, you'll need a whole new application.
