  • K1 - Unusually long delays at Vermont center?

    Hello,
I'm new to this forum but decided to write as the strangest thing is happening to our K1 petition. My fiancé in the US sent the complete file on May 14th. He sent it by express mail and received a postal service confirmation of delivery about a month later (which already seemed long). Since then, he has had no news from USCIS, no NOA1 with case number in sight. He paid by money order, so we can't monitor if the payment was cashed as we could with a check.
Since then, he has called USCIS a couple times and no-one was ever able to help him. At last, they sent him to an office in NYC, to meet with a person who was supposed to give him some info. She said she would investigate what happened to the file and advised him to send photocopies of our file to USCIS with a letter reminding them that they received this file in May and asking for information on the process. He did just that, 3 weeks ago. No news since.
We're starting to get quite worried - has anyone here had this kind of experience before?
Thanks so much for any answers.

If you have the receipt from the money order, there's a reference number on there and you can call western union to see if it has been cashed

did you guys send the package yourself or use and expert/lawyer

This does sound very very strange... especially if you sent it recorded delivery ?

Thank you for your answer. We will look for the money order recipt and call Western Union.
We sent the package ourselves but had a lawyer review the contents before sending - they told us that our file was in order...

        Hello,
As I wrote about our unusual experience with the K1 application that was taking ages, I thought I'd just send an update, now that we know what really happened : USCIS apparently have no trace of our file, even though we sent it recorded delivery! The New York office of USCIS, where my fiance managed to get an appointment, looked into the matter and told us to send a set of photocopies of our file to USCIS in Vermont, so that they can search for a matching file. They received the photocopies all right, but didn't find the original file. So we have to re-submit everything! But they told us that we should be fast-tracked if, in our new application, we also send a letter about what happened and proof of having already submitted a file that got lost.
Hoping that this time things work out and that we don't get struck by lightning twice...
