  • What's the deal with Form DS-156?

I've been on several different websites that mention that you need this form, DS-156. However, it doesn't mention it at all on the USCIS website. Also, looking through the processes on this website as well, for Petition of Alien Fiance(e), it doesn't mention it at all either. So, do you need it if you're a U.S. citizen filing for a Canadian fiancee?

i think that form should be filled out by the beneficiary of the petition and not you as the petitioner...and yes it's needed for a fiance/e visa...better check on your embassy website, all forms needed for the interview should be listed there

Has anyone here actually filled one out or had their fiance/e fill one out? Apparently it's for visas like Visitor's Visas or Buisness Visas. It doesn't sound like it's needed in our case, or more people would know about them.

Your fiancee will need to fill out the DS-156 and the DS-156K.

When the Embassy receives the paper work from the NVC they should send your fiancee a packet of information and forms. Included in the packet are the DS-156 and the DS-156k.
My Fiancee arrived here on a K-1 VISA.
        Conditional GreenCard has been received.

The US citizen files a petition with the USCIS which is part of the Dept of Homeland Security. Their forms start with I-

If approved the case passes to an Embassy where the beneficiary files a visa application. The Embassy falls under the Dept of State. Those forms start with DS-

You won't find DS forms on the USCIS website because they don't grant visas. The visa comes from the Dept of State via an Embassy. You are dealing with two different government departments in this process. USCIS says if you qualify to bring a fiance over. DOS decides if she meets the visa requirements. Hope that makes sense to you.

The forms needed by the foreign fiance beneficiary to apply for a visa are.
DS-230, part 1 (first two pages)
          DS-156
          DS-157
          DS-156K

Some of the forms are used for other types of visas as well as K1 visas. They need similar information no matter why the person is getting a visa. Sometimes the DS-157 only needs to be done by male applicants of a certain age or females of certain countries. Your embassy will say if they require the form for the general population. Many do.

Thank you all very much! That makes a lot more sense now.
