  • K1 Visa Approved, Thanks to Nichole and all of you guys!

Our K1 application is finally approved! It is approximately 7 months since filing at USCIS. All of my uncertainties were answered here, even the last minute, I even got a confusion in filling out form I-134, thanks to Nichole and the rest of the guys who eased my mind and gave a good advice . I really did not know what to do if not without this website. You guys have been such a great help - thank you very very much! Anyone who needs help, just send me a message and I will reply to you, the best that I can

But of course, our journey has not ended yet. I guess, this is just the beginning. I got my visa sticked on my passport and I am ready to go this September. I've heard I will still be asked by the immigration officer at the Point of Entry (POE). Does anyone know something about this? What are the preparations that should be made? Do you guys have an idea what they would be asking? Will they require me to show money? or will they ask how many dollars do I have with me? My friend was also asked before but she was on a tourist visa. I wonder if they will ask the same thing on K1 Visa.

Also, is it possible to ask the immigration officer if he can give me a work authorization stamp? If so, what would be the best thing to say?

As I've said, the journey hasn't ended yet. After getting in to meet and marry my fiance, what would be the next steps to do?

Your advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much and goodluck to all!

    Congratulations on the visa.

POE means Point of Entry into the US. Your first entry will be San Francisco. You will be questioned by immigration officials and hand over the brown envelope that has your file inside. Each place and officer is different. They can ask similar questions to an interview. What is your fiance's name? How did you meet? When do you plan to marry? Most don't ask much, but remind you that you must marry within 90 days and file for adjustment of status (AOS). They will not ask you about money.

Here's the deal on being asked about money at entry into the US.
There is a limit of $10,000 cash with you that can be brought into the US without reporting it. It doesn't mean they are going to tax you on it or say you can't bring more. It is totally fine to bring that much cash. It is a US law that they want to track large sums of money coming into the US as part of their efforts against terrorism. They just report it to keep track of who's moving a lot of cash into the US. Anybody in the US who makes a big move of money from one bank to another has it reported by their bank as part of their rules. They don't even tell you about it, but it is reported.

Another reason a tourist might be ask about how much money they have-- The officers at the entry points decide who enters because they want to deny anybody they think might be entering as a tourist, but planning to stay and work illegally. I have spoken with a Customs and Border Protection agent about this. He said if somebody is coming as a "tourist", but has no money or credit cards with them that a tourist would normally need for a vacation, then that might give them reason to suspect the person as not planning to leave the US.

The person entering with a K1 visa isn't expected to have a certain amount of money with them because it is understood that they are staying and that somebody has filled out an Affidavit of Support for them to provide for them financially.

This is information on the next steps of paperwork after marriage.
