  • phone call to USCIS

Something makes me think that I am not the only one who called to USCIS for whatever reason and never got a chance to talk to a live person.
Options, options, options... even if all my options directly are related to my cause I still cannot to talk to anyone and ask questions that only a person would be able to answer. A year ago or so each time I dialed the USCIS number I talked to an immigration officer. Not anymore, at least for me.
Any suggestions of those who had better luck contacting USCIS would be really appreciated. Maybe, there is some ***** option number.
    Thank you.

    hope this helps

i went through the same thing. I finally talk to someone when I had to do a change of address and if i remember correctly, you will be prompt on when to press that button to speak to someone. when that happens and the operator comes on just tell them what your issue is but saty on the line until you hear that.

call 800-375-5283. To bypass all the long menu prompts, press 1-1-2-1-1-1 when you hear their greeting and you will get sent to a live person

I can't believe you paid for something like this while it is available all over the internet.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

I didnt just pay to receive that 1 peice of information...

I used an expert for all my visa needs, and I truly believe its why it took UCSIS 2 months to approve my petition as it was sent in such a professional and organised fashion. I also did not have the time due to my work and RL commitments to sit through a bunch of paperwork. So actually... instead of jumping right in and branding me with the idiot stick, maybe you didn't consider my personal circumstances .... as a senior member I would have thought you were a forum veteran and understood that, but perhaps not.

If this is the response I get for sharing information then I don't think I'll be posting any advice up on here anymore.

And as you'll see from the OP, he asked for this information... not where it was available.

Please don't stop posting information because of this 1 person! You have been very helpful sharing your journey and giving information! I too, had a lawyer for the process, but I feel he wasn't the greatest by giving us information that we needed! You live and learn! But, Thank You!!!!

Wow! What a stunning bit of over reaction on your part!! That is all I got to say. I did not intend to brand you an idiot nor do I have any such opinion nor was I making such an attempt. You got my comment totally wrong.

I am aware of "immigration services" that sell such simple information to people and was just writing from that perspective. I have read your posts and was surprised about that and was looking for clarification. Though you have clarified that it was not the only thing you obtained, you have also taken my comment in the most negative sense.

You have established your opinion about me over such a simple post while I have helped thousands of people on this forum, a little benefit of doubt would go a long way.

You should not try to leave a forum or stop helping anyone over such a simple miscommunication. Rest is in your hands and your choice!

                  Cheers!

ps: I need not make an attempt to explain myself but am trying to just to clean up the air. The admins on this forum know what kind of services I provide and the efforts I put in to help people.

Posting for the benefit of all. USCIS has two types of live people that you could talk to. One is the general customer service and they would have no additional information about your specific case other than what you can already see using case status online. General information, customer service questions, fees, location of forms can be answered by the first level call center and they are good at it.

The only people that can actually look into the database and see any action taken on the specific case, answer specific questions about the case are the Service center Immigration officers. There are times when the call center folks can redirect your call to an IO but that happens rarely. You usually get the wait for X days type message from them.

Below are the detailed instructions to reach a live person. Credit goes to others that have already posted these on other forums.

                    Call 1-800-375-5283
                    Press 1 to select English
                    Press 2 to skip introduction
                    Press 2
Press 6 to find case status information
                    Press 1
Now enter your receipt number SRCxxxxxxxxxx
Voice asks if SRC press 1
Then reads out application number, if correct, press 1 (now listen to the case update info..blah blah)
Part way through the blah blah press 3
Wait a moment and press 4
(now if you hear a male voice telling you that no IO is available, it will redirect it to National Customer Service Center (NCSC) you can cut the phone line if you are trying to reach an Immigration Officer and not just the call center person.. and try the same steps)

                    In short:

                    800-375-5283...options 1,2,2,6,1 confirm receipt # pressing 1 then 3, 4

This will enable you to bypass the call-center and connect you directly with your Service Center IO !

I am sorry that my simple question triggered this totally unnesessary quarrel.
Miscommunication (or misinterpretation) happens quite often, please, let's not exaggerate and move on...
May I ask a great favor from all involved just to keep up with good job and forget this nonsense?
