  • Are translations necessary??

I have read this on the US Department of States website here...

"All documents not in English, or in the official language of the country in which application for a visa is being made, must be accompanied by certified English translations."

Does this mean that if I am applying for a K-1 Visa for my fiance from PERU that her documents like birth certificate or police records do not have to be translated to english if they are in spanish because spanish is Peru's official language.

That is how I read it, and I don't want to sound ignorant here, I just want to make sure I get it right.

Thanks so much for your help.

We sent all of our Non-English documents to a translator. They forgot to translate the Police Certificate and I did not realize that until it was already too late to get it translated.

We turned in everything and did the interview at the embassy but we got a RFE for the untranslated police certificate. We rushed to the translator and returned the same day to find that branch of the consulate closed but a friendly security guard said that he was authorized to accept RFE with the accompanied evidence.

The VISA arrived at my Fiancees house one week later
My Fiancee arrived here on a K-1 VISA.
    Conditional GreenCard has been received.
